Brian E. Smith, 53, civil engineer Brian E. Smith, 53, of Glen Ridge [NJ] died at home on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007. 

Friends and relatives are invited to attend the funeral from the Hugh M. Moriarty Funeral Home, 76 Park St., Montclair, on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be offered at the Church of the
Immaculate Conception, 30 N. Fullerton Ave., Montclair, at 10:30 a.m.

Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. 

Interment is private.

Born in Kenvil, Mr. Smith lived in Montclair before moving to Glen Ridge 21 years ago. He graduated from Roxbury High School, and from Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, with a  degree in civil engineering. He was employed by LAN Associates Engineering, Planning, Architecture, Surveying Inc. in Midland Park for the past 16 years. Previously, he was an engineer at ITT Corporation, where he worked on designing projects for the National Science Foundation at the South Pole and other sites in Antarctica. Mr. Smith enjoyed traveling and camping with his family. He asked his wife of 22 years, Deborah (nee Dobronsky), to marry him while vacationing in Greece. Always keeping busy, he took pleasure in wood-working and fixing things. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Ian, who attends Drew University in Madison, and his daughter, Kelly, a sophomore at Glen Ridge High School; his sister, Carla Brundage and her husband, Kevin, of Madison; his sister, Kathleen Foreman and her husband, Peter, of Basking Ridge; his brother, Kevin Smith and his wife, Robin, of Raritan Township; his sister, Karen Newton and her husband, Frank, of Sparta; his sister, Barbara Pandos and her husband, Christopher, of West Chester, Pa.; his sister, Eileen Parks and her husband, Scott, of Mansfield Township; his in-laws, Richard and Rosemary Dobronsky of Bayonne, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss him dearly.
