FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Bob Valentine 703.918.6922 www.raytheon.com Raytheon Awarded National Science Foundation U.S. Antarctic Science Support Contract Valued at $1.12 Billion VIENNA, Va., Oct. 29, 1999 -- Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTNA, RTNB) has been awarded a $1.12 billion contract by the National Science Foundation (NSF) to provide science, operations and maintenance support services for the United States Antarctic Program, which conducts all U.S. scientific research on and around the continent of Antarctica. Under this ten-year award, which includes a five-year base period and one five- year option, Raytheon Systems Company will provide everything needed to sustain year-round research programs at three research stations and on two research vessels, including station and ship operations, information technology and communications systems support, marine science support and facilities engineering and construction. Raytheon will also operate the logistics pipeline to all Antarctic facilities and provide research vessel charter, small aircraft operations, food procurement and food services, medical services and waste management in support of scientists deployed to Antarctic bases, field camps and ships. Raytheon's operational responsibility for the U.S. presence in Antarctica will include Palmer Station, McMurdo Station and Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station. Raytheon will also perform staging operations in Christchurch, New Zealand; Punta Arenas, Chile; and Port Hueneme, Calif. and will provide science and operational support aboard the NSF's research vessels Nathaniel B. Palmer and Laurence M. Gould. Raytheon's program management office will be in Denver, Colo.
